There are several high-end chronographs available to shooters, with the current top dog being the Garmin, selling for around $600. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been testing the new Athlon Rangecraft side-by-side with a Garmin, and I couldn’t be happier — especially considering it costs just over half the price.

Reviewing data, discarding individual shots, and using the device overall is so intuitive that I didn’t even look at the instructions.
The internal battery is rated for 6 hours of use. I’ve taken mine out probably a dozen times so far, and it still holds a 25% charge.
It comes in a fairly rigid zippered case, along with an aluminum tripod.

Real-world testing:
6.5 Creedmoor with 135 grain A-Tips: Both devices showed an average of 2925 fps with an extreme spread (ES) of 22 over 5 shots.
7-300 WSM with 190 grain Bergers: Only a 1 fps difference between the two units over 9 shots.
30-378 Weatherby (factory ammo): 2 fps difference over 8 shots.
Springfield XD 9mm with Blazer Brass: Averaged 1115 fps over 15 shots with an ES of 44.6.
Ruger Takedown 10/22 with Browning ammo: Had an ES of 231 fps over 76 shots — nearly an 18% variance from slowest to fastest shot.
For serious rimfire shooters, understanding which ammo delivers consistent velocity can make a huge difference when shooting past 100 yards. This chronograph makes that kind of insight easy to access.
Overall, this is a fantastic little device that punches well above its price point. Myself and everyone I know who has invested in this chrono couldn’t be happier.
